Math Intervention Program (MIP)
Math Intervention Program (by invitation only): In an effort to provide students who are struggling in algebra 1 with more opportunities for success, NVHS has initiated the Math Intervention Program (MIP). MIP is designed to help increase the student’s likelihood of passing the math course. A student will be required to attend the MIP if one or more of the following occur. A student:
1) is receiving a D or F in algebra.
2) has received a D or F on an assessment given in math.
3) receives a failing homework percentage leading to any of the above.
Once a student qualifies for MIP, he or she is required to meet with a math instructor during the student’s option period. In order to exit the MIP, the student must show proof of mastery on objectives set by the instructors. The MIP teacher will keep attendance records and all attendance rules in the student handbook will apply.
Participation in the MIP does not guarantee an increased or passing grade for the current math course. However, it is our hope that the extra help provided in conjunction with the student’s increased efforts and proof of mastery over previously missed objectives will increase the likelihood of a passing grade.
*Note: Retakes are available for mid-unit or unit TESTS only. Retakes are NOT available for quizzes. A replacement grade up to a 70% may be earned on a test retake. Please direct all MIP questions to your specific math instructor.
